What are you breathing at home or in the workplace?
IAQ or indoor quality is an important issue. As we seal up our houses and offices in an attempt to save energy we contain pollutants in our interior spaces like putting a lid on a tupperware container. Did you know dust in homes is mainly generated by human skin cells. Besides dust from us, mildew, insulation, or other pollutants can add to the mix of airborne particles making a interesting organic stew. The particles that make up house dust can easily become airborne, so care must be exercised when removing dust, as the activity intended to sanitize or remove dust may make things worse. The installation of high grade air filters in the HVAC system as well as UV disinfecting units and the hepa vacuum units helps effectively decrease dust issues in the home.
The air quality was so bad in this house it was corrosive to the metal HVAC vents. A bad heat exchanger, no common cleaning and open gas space heaters were used in this home.
Look what the filter did not catch. Much of the dust in the home may stick in the ducts before getting to the filters.
This door has mold all over it! This is an unusual situation because the house was vacant a long time and had a leaking roof which added excess moisture to the interior. See the distinctive round dots of dust, that's mold. It grows were the door was touched. This really shows up under flash photography.
